October
- Date to be announced
In the Benidorm version
of this popular celebration, the Moors are seen off by the Christians in
commemoration of battles and the banishment of the Moors in the 15th century.
Three days of feasting and merrymaking take place before the appearance
of the "Filae", or armies of imaginatively-attired soldiers, who parade
through town in rank upon rank, a dazzling display of shining helmets,
colourful capes, turbans and glinting weaponry. A slow beat and insistent
music mark their stately progress. Mock encounters follow, before events
take a more celebratory turn with no shortage of food and wine.
It is held in the streets
of Benidorm around the old town. We'll have more precise details soon. |
