Delay
on Natural Gas supply to Benidorm.
A
new gas pipeline is to run from Alicante to Benidorm and Altea. Iberdrola
has already announced that the first Natural Gas clients will be connected
in Benidorm next summer, but work to lay the first new pipelines is yet
to start. Información newspaper reports that a modification to the
project will delay the service start date. A provisional deposit to supply
the gas has still to be built next to the electricity sub-station in La

High
hopes for German tourism on the Costa Blanca.
Numbers
are up thanks to the Air Berlin flights to Alicante. There are high hopes
for German tourism on the Costa Blanca with the arrival of Air Berlin at
the El Altet airport in Alicante. There are now 17 weekly flights to German
cities either directly of via Palma de Mallorca, leading to an expected
150,000 Germans making their way to the Costa Blanca this winter season.
El Altet is already the second busiest destination in Spain for Air Berlin,
after Palma, and local hoteliers hope the Germans will replace missing
national tourists in the economic slowdown. Across the Valencia region
for the first three quarters of the year, foreign tourist numbers were
up 2.3% on 2007 at 4.7 million. However September saw a 2% fall year on
year. |

New
beach by-laws in Benidorm. The beaches in the town are to be closed
to the public overnight. The Partido Popular Town Hall in Benidorm is expected
to approve new by-laws this week which envisage 750€ fines for those
who go on any of the five beaches in the town between the hours of midnight
and 7am. The idea is one of 73 items in total which include a fine of 150€
for those who use the beach as a toilet, and even includes legislation
on sandcastles, again facing a 150€ fine. Alcoholic drink is to be
banned on the beach, as will be the distribution of advertising leaflets.
There is a 750€ fine for fishing. Ballgames are banned, except in
authorised areas, under the threat of a 120€ fine, and those who carry
out the German practice of getting up early to reserve a space with a sunshade
will be fined 150€. The new rules come as the text indicates that
the beach should be used only for walking and pacific enjoyment and bathing,
ahead of any other use. |
